Q. How do I take greens+?
A. The suggested dosage is 3 teaspoons daily with a cup of water and/or juice (we like unsweetened apple juice the best). Many people also enjoy Blissful Berry and Tangerine Dream in water. Use our greens+ shaker cup, as greens+ is best shaken, not stirred.
A special note for first time users:
Start with one teaspoon of greens+ and gradually increase to the recommended dosage of 3 teaspoons over a 3 week period.
Q. When is the best time to take any of the greens+ formulas?
A. The ideal time to take greens+, greens+ multi+, greens+ extra energy or greens+ daily detox is first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. This way you may feel less hungry and have more energy throughout the day. If you do take these with food, it is not harmful and you will still receive all of the same benefits.
Q. Can I use greens+ (including greens+ multi+, greens+ extra energy and greens+ daily detox) on a long-term basis?
A. Absolutely! Think of all our greens+ products as food; food that has nutrients you might not otherwise be getting from your diet. greens+ is the antioxidant equivalent of 6 servings of organic salads. Most people don't eat 6 servings of vegetables a day because of cost, time or convenience.
Q. How does greens+ go beyond the other foods in my diet?
A. Gram for gram, greens+ contains a healthy dose of the vitamins your body needs:
- 6 times more calcium than broccoli
- 2.5 times more magnesium than spinach
- 3 times more folic acid than orange juice
- 4 times more vitamin A than tomato juice
- 7 times more fibre than oatmeal
- 4 times more vitamin C than sweet cherries
- 3.5 times more vitamin B6 than cooked lentils
Q. Can I take too much? What is too much? Can I take more than once a day?
A. Yes, you can take greens+ more than once a day. Ideally, you should take it first thing in the morning and no later than late afternoon (particularly greens+ extra energy as it contains naturally occurring caffeine). In general, people do not need more than 2 full servings (6 teaspoons/day). The only result of taking either too much, or too much too quickly is general detoxification.
Q. What about allergies to herbs, especially bee pollen?
A. Bee pollen is flower pollen that has been modified by the bees. It is an excellent source of various nutrients, as well as quercitin, an antiallergic flavonoid. As a matter of fact, bee pollen may help some people desensitize their allergic reactions to pollen. If there is an allergy to pollens, it is important to use greens+ with caution and to start taking any of the greens+ formulas in very small doses - as little as 1/4-teaspoon daily - and increasing very gradually.
Q. Is greens+ okay during pregnancy?
A. greens+ can be taken during a normal, healthy pregnancy. Though some of the individual herbs may be contraindicated during pregnancy, the complete formula (of 23 ingredients) offers both safety and efficacy as a supplement during pregnancy. However you should check with your health care practitioner before starting any nutritional program.
Q. Will greens+ extra energy give me the ‘shakes’ like regular caffeine?
A. The moderate amount of caffeine (80mg) contained in greens+ extra energy is considered a safe and research-proven effective dose. This amount was intentionally chosen as it provides a sufficient energy-boost without causing over-stimulation or unpleasant side-effects such as the ‘shakiness’ that is often associated with coffee. We also selected Kola nut as our source of caffeine, as it is provides naturally occurring caffeine in a phytonutrient base that is not associated with the side-effects or other sources of caffeine.
Q. What is detoxifying?
A. Detoxification is the elimination of various harmful chemicals from the body. This elimination process occurs when you undertake positive, health promoting dietary changes, including the use of greens+ daily detox, and is sometimes accompanied by temporary, though unpleasant symptoms. These symptoms can include constipation, diarrhea, rashes, skin eruptions, nausea and headaches. They are caused by the elimination of the harmful chemicals from the body and should last no longer than 1.5-2 weeks. The majority of consumers will not experience this type of phenomenon. For those who do, merely cutting back on their daily dosage and gradually building up to the full dosage over a 3-week period should alleviate these symptoms.
Q. Are any of the greens+ formulas appropriate for medical conditions?
A. Although the original greens+ formula was not developed to treat specific medical conditions, it may be of benefit in a number of modern diseases and disorders. Naturally occurring plant-based chemicals (phytonutrients) such as those found in greens+ act as antioxidants and are thought to play significant roles in the prevention of a number of chronic illnesses, including cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease, osteoporosis, and diabetes. Emerging research suggests that antioxidants may also be of value in medically unexplained conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia where patients are known to be under increased oxidative stress. The many plant- and herb-derived phytonutrients found in greens+ are potent antioxidants, which work in a synergistic fashion to promote health. The inclusion of beneficial bacteria (probiotics) for normal bowel health and the documented alkalinizing effect of greens+ may offer additional therapeutic effects for those with chronic illnesses. Q. Once I stop taking nutrilean+ will I gain weight?
A. One of the key benefits of taking a meal replacement such as nutrilean+, is that you are guaranteed to get all the fats, carbs, proteins and nutrients you need from a balanced meal in just one serving. Not only does this ensure a healthy meal each time, but it also reduces your risk for over-eating. Should you return to regular meals, you will want to make sure they contain ingredients that are healthy, satisfying and do not exceed your daily calorie requirements. Don’t be afraid however! Q. How much Omega-3 should a person take on a daily basis?
A. According to a number of research studies, medical reports and international panels, the daily recommended amount of the combined active components of Omega-3, EPA and DHA, is 650mg. By taking two capsules of o3mega or 1 capsule of o3mega extra strength, you will get a little more than the minimum daily amount, which is completely safe. Q. Should I be concerned about fish and the toxins they carry when taking a fish oil supplement?
A. We use sardines, mackerel and anchovies in all of our o3mega supplements. These fish are among the safest as they are much smaller on average, have shorter life spans and far less exposure to toxins. Furthermore, they contain the highest natural occurring levels of EPA and DHA, the essential fatty acids which make o3mega so effective for heart, skin, brain and mood-enhancing health. The oil from these fish is then purified using molecular distillation to ensure a completely clean and safe product, every time.
